AdieCon 2020 Survey Results
Save the date! AdieCon has an official date and location - it will be in downtown Seattle on January 31st, 2020! We were aiming for October, but due to event space availability and wanting to make sure we have enough time to plan, we went with the last Friday in January.
Since we are using community data to drive the event planning, we thought we would share the anonymized themes that emerged from the survey we sent out in May. Over one hundred Adies responded - so thank you for your input!
We had a pretty even response rate from all the Cohorts. Friday was the “best day” to hold the conference, which helped us schedule January 31st. For cost, Adies whose companies would pay for the ticket selected $140-$200 and out of pocket employed Adies indicated $40-$80 would be a good price point. Several people mentioned students and interns should get free passes.
Seventy-one percent of respondents are employed full time. Eighty-five percent said they would want to bring one or more guests to the conference. For topics, the clear winner with 88.8% was “career advancement”. Another request for content was “practical info” instead of “theory”, especially on the subject of diversity and inclusion. We love this sentiment and will build that goal into the tracks and proposal review process.
Over half of respondents said you would be interested in helping out in some way to make this conference happen. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support. We will be ramping up our social media communications, if you want to get involved, send us a note at adieconference@gmail.com.
Finally, we had some feedback from folks wondering if they were “qualified” enough to speak or review proposals. We want to stress that if you are a student, intern or alum you are qualified to get involved in any capacity. Your experience, perspective and expertise is what makes this network incredible.
AdieCon is our chance to have a community retrospective and talk about what’s working, what isn’t and to generate ideas and action items on how we can build careers that are meaningful and fulfilling. Our hope is in ten years, AdieCon will be a room full of senior software developers, CTOs and founders! We can get to that future faster, together.
